For Annie Lou’s 2nd Birthday. Recipe courtesy of Nigella Lawson from her sumptous cookbook Feast (the recipe is titled Chocolate Honey Cake). This cake is dense, moist, very chocolate-y, and rather sophisticated with its rich honey flavor. Adorable marzipan honey bees (handcrafted by me, Mrs Patton) make this cake a perfect dessert for children and adults alike.

I’m fortunate to have a mom who’s a fantastic cook and baker… she’s taught me all the basic kitchen skills I know, and is responsible for instilling the love of food I have in me today. Her old cookbooks – though most lie collecting dust in the cupboard now – are amongst my favourite treasures of hers.
Although I may not make the recipe verbatim in one of her books, the basic formulae contained in their yellowed, stained pages are time-tested and true. This "health bread" recipe, from an ancient 35-cent mini-book, was re-written by me (on the notepage in the top righthand corner) to suit my current whims and pantry contents. Modifications and all, the loaves turned out perfectly – exactly as the recipe described. Tradition will never steer you wrong!

Friends and family came from Vancouver, British Columbia; Pennsylvania; Florida; and Georgia to celebrate with Irma. Everyone enjoyed music from DJ James, a delicious fish fry meal, birthday cake, fellowship, and dancing after the meal.
SMFS Office and Local Charities Help Service Members and Veterans in Need

Amen Ministries Christian Church, Brotherhood United Motorcycle Association, and the Oregon National Guard Service Member Family Support (SMFS) Office distributed 108 meals to needy service members and veterans Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2022, at the Oregon Army National Guard Aviation Support Facility #1 in Salem, Ore. The food box donation event was initially scheduled with Amen Ministries Christian Church from Damascus donating the food and the SMFS office coordinating the distribution. Then days prior, The Brotherhood United Motorcycle Association contacted the SMFS Office and informed them that they had fundraised to help veterans in need and wanted to help donate food for the holidays. As a result, the SMFS office added Brotherhood United’s donation to the food boxes, with the Brotherhood’s members helping with the distribution.
