FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. — Volunteers from Pennsylvania American Water Company and American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary Post #910 (Lickdale) assisted Deployment Cycle Support and Family Program staff in the distribution of fifty-three complete Thanksgiving turkey dinner kits, carefully assembled by Xerox Corporation volunteers and graciously donated by the Xerox Community Involvement Fund and Mr. & Mrs. Shiva Bongu (USPFO-RM). Representatives were sent from the 111th Fighter Wing, 171st Air Refueling Wing, 28th Infantry Division, 213th Regional Support Group and Fort Indiantown Gap to pick up the meals from Fort Indiantown Gap on Nov. 22, 2011, for final distribution to twelve Airmen and forty-one Soldiers in need. This is the seventh year Xerox Community Involvement Fund has made this distribution possible, and the most volunteer support that Family Program has received to date. LTC Allen Nelson (USPFO-LOG) and the Pennsylvania National Guard Foundation were instrumental in facilitating the donation. (Photo courtesy of State Family Program Office/Released)

It was also published in an undated (Aug 2010) Squidoo blog titled "Some Amazing Budget Recipes." And it was published in an Oct 11, 2010 blog titled " Quick Easy Dinner Recipes: Garden Meatloaf And Low Fat Mashed Potatoes."

It was also published in an undated (late Apr 2011) blog titled "lNice Easy Dinner Recipes photos." And it was published in a May 20, 2011 Toddler blog www.toddlerinfo.tk/david-decadent-dinner-12-436 , with the same caption and detailed notes that I had written on this Flickr page.

When Christmas rolled around last year, we told our son, David, that there was no need for him to spend any money on presents for us – we already have all of the toys and gadgets that we need, and we know that he’s on a tight budget (otherwise, I might have asked for an Aston Martin, or a diamond-studded Apple iPad, or perhaps a private jet).

David responded with several creative ideas, one of which was an offer to cook a "decadent meal" for us. We accepted happily, and he arrived in our apartment on Tuesday evening and promptly set about whipping together a wonderful presentation of Bucatini all’Amatriciana — which, I have been asked to emphasize, substituted traditional spaghetii in place of the bucatini pasta called for in the official recipe. My wife had shopped for most of the ingredients, and done a little chopping and basic preparation; and I contributed to the meal by stopping at the local liquor store to find a good bottle of Italian Barolo wine.

Since I have no culinary skills whatsoever, common sense dictated that I stay out of the kitchen, safely away from the people doing the "serious" work of preparing the meal. But I couldn’t help sticking my camera into the middle of things from time to time, and I ended up with this set of photos…

By the way, if you want to recreate this yourself, check out Recipe: Bucatini all’Amatriciana in the January 16, 2008 issue of the New York Times.

This dinner is especially tasty! The stats for this one aren’t that great, but keep in mind this usually makes more like 6-8 servings for my family.

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
Salt, pepper
4 slices cheese (swiss or american)
1 can chicken broth
2 cans condensed cream of chicken/celery/mushroom, your choice
6 cups packaged stuffing mix
1/4-1/2 cup butter, melted

Place chicken in bottom of slow cooker. Add salt & pepper. Top each breast with cheese slide. Add broth & soups. Sprinkle stuffing mix over top. Pour melted butter over all. Cover and cook on low 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.

Nutrition Facts: Makes 4 servings. 589 calories, 28.9 fat, 37.7g carbs, 1.7g fiber, 42.3g protein.

Hmmm… heterozyklische Amine, polyzyklische Kohlenwasserstoffe, Benzpyren, Nitrosamine! 10.000 years of cultural development culminated in the haute cuisine. But now and then we’re avid for a piece of barbecued meat. Some Neandertal genes?
