For the second year, we’ve gathered in the Twin Cities to golf, shop and eat. This meal at McCormick’s and Schmick’s was as celebration of our 3 anniversaries, 25,32 and 34 years respectively. Had Mom still been alive, they would be celebrating their 53rd.

Giveaway Books I Found Today

A large hardback copy of the New York Times Cook Book by Craig Claiborne, and a smaller paperback copy of Terry Pratchett’s Small Gods, with a detail of the original Josh Kirby cover showing a man tied with leather cuffs to the back of a large bronze turtle.
A house on my street had these books as part of a giveaway, in boxes on their front yard. Great score!

Our New Years eve celebration started at home with a fantastic meal cooked by Gina. We then moved off to Jared’s mom’s place for drinks and the countdown.

Soldiers from the 29th Military Police Company from Westminster, Md., enjoyed their Holiday meal with other veterans at the local American Legion Post this weekend and were visited by some special guests.
Maj. Gen. James A. Adkins, the adjutant general of Maryland and Command Sgt. Maj. Brian S. Sann the senior enlisted leader and Santa Clause all spent time with family and friends and unit members.
“I want to thank the families for their support,” said Adkins, commanding general of the Maryland National Guard. “Many times when we deploy or get called out, you are left behind to take care of the kids and fix the car and you have to deal with all the problems in a household. Because of your sacrifices we are able to do our jobs, and I thank you.”
The Soldiers used the opportunity to help those who are less fortunate in the community and they started a food drive. The Military Police Company leadership looked for ways the unit could support the local community of Westminster that would have the biggest impact on those that were in dire need of assistance. They decided to work with Carroll County Food Sunday a nonprofit organization that distributes a weekly, nutritionally balanced grocery packages to more than 400 families a week.
“Our Soldiers live in this community and it is important that we help those of us who are struggling during this time of year,” said Lt. Andre Fields, company commander for the 29th Military Police unit. “We want to make sure that everyone is able to enjoy the season.”
The unit has collection boxes at their Westminster and Cascade armories and they will be taking donations of nonperishable items until December 13.
