Nasi lemak with rendang

Last few times I made rendang, I was a bit underwhelmed. But I think the key, for me, is to serve it a little more dressed than just with rice (which is what every cookbook seems to recommend). It worked great here as a part of nasi lemak. All those funky, fresh, texturally varied bits around it helped tame the powerful flavor of the rendang.
O put this in a bowl for some reason; traditionally it comes on a flat plate or in a banana-leaf pouch. The bowl didn’t help any. Some day I should try eating it the way I’m told Malaysians do: just using my hands.
