Frank Towsey has gone West. The genial mine host of the Waverley was not always engaged in such palatial and luxurious quarters. He came out in a "windjammer," and was at one time a steward in the employ of the Union Steamship Co., and afterwards came ashore and commenced business in Lower Queen Street, and later in The Dive, the entrance to which was situated, as all old Aucklanders know, alongside what is now the new entrance to the Imperial Hotel. Mention of The Dive under Frank’s management conjures up memories of many a good meal. Ten or twelve years ago one could obtain a liberal helping of undercut steak with a dressing of oysters for 1s (shilling). at this famous eating house. The quality of Frank’s menu was even mentioned in Supreme Court proceedings. After he disposed of The Dive, and took over the management of the dining room at the Waverley Hotel the quality of the meals again made a name for the house. Frank’s genial smile and greeting will be sadly missed by all his friends, new and old.

CAMP ZAMA, Japan – A genie, a gorilla, an astronaut, Jack Sparrow and even Freddy Krueger paid a visit to the home of Army Command Sgt. Maj. Eric C. Dostie, command sergeant major, U.S. Army Japan, for a Halloween celebration Oct. 23, 2015, in Camp Zama, Japan.
The Dostie family treated their costumed guests with a home cooked meal, specialty drinks and traditional Halloween treats. Dostie and his wife also organized games for the group that included stacking plastic cups and shaking ping pong balls out of tissue boxes. Even Dostie’s five-year old daughter participated in the friendly competition by awarding the best male and female costumes of the night.
“I hosted this party to help our senior NCO leadership to unwind after a few stressful weeks preparing for major missions and exercises” said Dostie who greeted his guests in pharaoh’s clothing, “These celebrations remind us that our command is a close-knit family that enjoys the little tricks and treats in life.”

RALEIGH, N.C. — Wells Fargo Home Mortgage Corporation employees provided some much needed holiday cheer for military families in need by donating 156 family meals at their corporate offices here today. The company, NCNG and Army Reserve volunteers braved a chilly morning to load many of the boxes full non-perishable food for a Thanksgiving feast onto North Carolina National Guard Light Medium Tactical Vehicle for distribution. “It is a great opportunity for the team,” said Vince Toscano, a Wells Fargo consumer loan underwriter.
