California Marine awarded for community service in Times Square-ceremony prior to Afghan deployment [Image 2 of 3]

Staff Sgt. Daniel Valdes, a Grass Valley, Calif., native, received the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal in a Times Square-ceremony, here, Dec. 7. Valdes, logistics chief, 6th Communications Battalion, Marine Forces Reserve, and his family will depart for California prior to Christmas and he will deploy to Afghanistan in the coming months. Valdes was awarded for his work from 2008 to 2011 within the community. He built a relationship between the battalion and the Ronald McDonald House, serving families of children who are hospitalized, by organizing three separate events featuring a spaghetti meal for the families, gift baskets, toy giveaways, and entertainment.

Family Reunion – Chamonix 2018

We had a wonderful family reunion in Chamonix, at the foot of the Mont-Blanc, with dozens of Florin and Bossy relatives from all over the world.
Our brother Claude and his wife Marie-Valentine graciously hosted us in their lovely chalet in Montroc, from July 12 to 16, 2018. During that time, we celebrated two birthdays, as well as Bastille Day and the French victory in the world football cup.
Each day, we went on wonderful hikes in the French Alps all around us: from short walks to Col des Montets and Cascade de Bérard, to more challenging hikes to the Aiguille des Posettes and the Aiguille d’Argentière. We even crossed the Mont-Blanc tunnel for a stroll in Valle d’Aosta, on the Italian side of the Alps.
In the evenings, we cooked hearty meals, from cheese raclettes to romanian dishes, and the wine flowed freely. At sunset, the icy peaks turned bright crimson, as if to cheer us along. We would then view old family pictures together, play games and talk late into the night.
It was such a pleasure to play together and learn from each other. The best part was seeing all our young family members get along so well. It had been 12 years since our last reunion, and our children were all grown up: now in their twenties and thirties, they were smart, sweet, and gave us hope for the future.
We all look forward to our next reunion. Vive la famille!

3-4 whole bulbs of garlic, peeled and separated into cloves, barely covered with olive oil in a shallow baking dish, roasted at 300F for about 45 mins or so, cooled and then blended with just a pinch of salt.
Put it on/in everything. BONUS – very kid-friendly in our test kitches, they all asked for more!

The "Silent Hostess" Treasure Book was a cookbook and instruction book published by GE for owners of their Monitor Top refrigerators (though the term "Monitor Top" is never used in the book). It contains recipes and information on how to use the refrigerator — remember, for most owners, this would have been their first electric refrigerator.
We have a Monitor Top, so I was looking for a copy of this cookbook, and found one on Etsy!
The copy of the Treasure Book I have was published in 1930.
