Tyler Shaw and Ariel Kandy of Ohio, look into downtown Cincinnati during the Survivors Outreach Services riverboat cruise in the Ohio River June 13, 2021.
The two were in attendance supporting the Williams family who lost Army Staff Sgt. Wesley Williams in 2012.
About 300 friends and family members from around five states enjoyed the cruise up the river along with a meal, music and fun all hosted by Northern Kentucky’s B&B Riverboats. The day is designed to recognize the surviving family members of military service members who have given their lives in defense of our nation. These two are watching a potential meal that is crawling on the ground. I took photos of the raptor on the right eating the creature less than a minute later. The prey was torn to shreds, so I couldn’t identify what it was.

alternate angle of silverware packaging closed

I think my sister longs to be a giant. For as long as I can remember, she has had an obsession with using tiny silverware to eat her meals. Perhaps it is because the tallest member of our family in recent memory is 5’9”. Or maybe she identifies more with the Giant than his vegetable scaling murderer in the classic fairy tale that celebrates theft and homicide.
Regardless of the rational behind her obsession, I knew this fork and spoon was destined for my sister’s kitchen table.
Since the act of opening a gift is one of the most enjoyable parts of gift-giving for both the giver and receiver, pleasure in packaging was a significant concern. I came up with a solution consisting entirely of recycled materials.
