VERONESE, LES PELERINS D’EMMAUS : L’HUMANISME
L’oeuvre n’est à l’évidence plus un tableau religieux. C’est un tableau parfaitement profane, représentant une famille appartenant au patriciat Vénitien, qui affiche son adhésion à l’idéologie encore dominante à son époque, en prenant le prétexte des Evangiles pour obtenir un portrait de groupe, avec les serviteurs et les animaux de compagnie. C’est cela la Renaissance : le début du recul du monopole idéologique de la religion catholique en Europe. Ce n’est la Renaissance de rien du tout, c’est seulement la naissance de la religion de l’Homme.
A notre époque, au lieu du Repas d’Emmaus, l’artiste représenterait la table des Droits de l’Homme, la Statue de la Liberté, ou la Pyramide maçonnique comme sur le billet de un dollar. Ou encore, il dessinerait une banderole avec la légende : "Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité".
The work is obviously no longer a religious painting. It is a perfectly profane picture, representing a family belonging to the Venetian patriciate, which displays its adherence to the still dominant ideology of its time, taking the pretext of the Gospels to obtain a group portrait with the servants and pets . This is the Renaissance: the beginning of the decline of the ideological monopoly of the Catholic religion in Europe. It is the Renaissance of nothing at all, it is only the birth of the religion of Man.
In our time, instead of Emmaus’ Meal, the artist would represent the table of Human Rights, the Statue of Liberty, or the Masonic Pyramid as on the dollar bill. Or again, he would draw a banner with the legend: "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity".
Family Day

The UCA office of student life sponsored Family Day prior the Bears’ football game with Nicholls State on Saturday. The event featured carnival-style attractions for families to enjoy as well as a free meal and concessions.

The family dining area had plenty of room, and the staff at The Old Joint Stock were happy for us to linger over our meal, and swap Christmas presents, to make it feel like a proper Christmas meal together with our two families (albeit 11 days early).

in addition, this traditional food has pinto beans and butterbeans to make a tasty meal for a large family gathering on New Year’s Day 2006 – in south Georgia
The dried beans were soaked over night. Then the soaked-beans were cooked in water and Smithfield Ham until tender. Seasonings to taste were added while the beans and peas cooked.
