I have several Southern Living cookbooks including several years of the annual editions and the 20th anniversary edition. This is by far my favorite. The recipes are grouped by category rather than month as in the annual editions which I hate, it makes it hard to browse for a dinner recipe. One of the best things about this book is it has recipes for everyone from the beginner to the advanced chef. I can’t name the number of times I have used the reference sections also. The substitution list is the best and I love the introductions and tips listed all over the book. Where the annual editions are really geared towards an experienced chef this book has so many basic tips that I would strongly recommend it for a beginning chef as well.

This book is truly a comprehensive collection of recipes. I work as a home economist, and this book contains most of the recipes that the public requests. It sits on my desk with my “easy-to-reach” references. As is typical of Southern Living cookbooks, recipes are presented in an easy-to-read, organized format that makes cooking a pleasure, even for the novice. I give this cookbook as a gift for weddings, graduations, and housewarmings. One of the best I’ve ever run across in my work. I have my own copy as well.

Honestly, I have never purchased something that I have been so thrilled with as I have this cookbook. It has everything you can imagine in it, including helpful tips, substitutions, etc., and appeals to cooks of all types. It makes a superior wedding shower gift and an awesome Christmas gift for anyone. It’s for the novice and the expert as well. And boy, you just don’t get any better than this when it comes to the recipes. Oh my, that sweet potato casserole in this book is just outstanding! Folks could not keep away from it during a holiday gathering and it was the first thing gone! It’s that amazing and that good! Everything I’ve tried in this book (and I’ve tried a chunk) has been incredible. You can’t go wrong in any way buying this book for yourself or anyone. It’s that amazing and you really need to have it in your collection.

When our brother Jeff and his wife Jodie raved about the “Ultimate” cookbook we knew we had to check it out. They both are cookbook afficianados so when they claimed this was the “one cookbook you must have” we ordered it from Amazon.com. They were absolutely right! It contains wonderful recipes: the best of everything (except for the missing Dieter-Bryce breakfast sausage muffins) and each recipe is perfectly explained. It’s a “must have”!
