It’s all here: the vintage illustrations, full-color ’50s-style images, along with the yummy recipes written in Better Homes expected easy-to-follow style. This one is a favorite! It has the look of the school readers I used as a child. I love "Better Homes and Gardens" cookbooks. Most of them have classic illustrations and fonts that perfectly mirror the design and fashion of the times. And the recipes are pretty good, too.

My grandma’s cookbook. This is pretty typical of this cookbook. Lots of handwritten recipes along with the printed ones.

There was also a big pile of clippings stuffed inside the front cover. I took them out because they seemed to cause deterioration in this book. I’ll scan them separately.

Grandma’s cookbook: bad recipe?

My grandma’s cookbook. I’m not sure why the pie recipe is crossed out, but it’s completely different from her usual pie recipe that was passed on to me. The blank recipe card was between these two pages — maybe a bookmark? Notice the two ring marks on the pages — perhaps a cup or jar was used to hold the book open!
